Leadership Essentials Workshops
Course Overview
This workshop is designed for people who want to develop their skills to successfully identify the need for coaching conversations in an organization, and to practice using a simple, structured model to have those coaching conversations meaningfully and effectively, in a variety of developmental contexts (e.g., one-on-one coaching, performance feedback, sensitive managerial conversations, career planning, etc.)
The Leadership Essentials: Coaching workshop will consist of the following elements:
- Introduction to coaching
- Orientation to a flexible model to use when moving from “catch-up” conversation to coaching conversation
- Structured practice using the model, with debrief
- Facilitated discussion about putting coaching into practice
- The workshop will give you a taste of our two unique graduate and executive education coaching certificate paths.

Learning Outcomes
By participating in this session, you will learn how to:
- Explain the difference between catch-up conversations and coaching conversations
- Identify and leverage opportunities to move from catch-up conversation to coaching conversation
- Begin developing your own style and comfort with a model to structure and guide coaching conversations “from purpose to practice”
Earn Continuing Education Credit
ELOC is recognized by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP. This program is valid for 2 PDCs for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.
Workshop Requirements (to earn a certificate of completion)
- Attend and participate in the entire synchronous workshop session
- Complete all coaching conversations (practice: coaching, being coached, and offering observations)
- Participate in group discussions (this can take the form of engaged listening, verbal contributions, and/or written contributions in the chat)

Michelle Albaugh
Michelle Albaugh, Associate Director of Coaching in the Master's and Executive Programs in Learning and Organizational Change (ELOC & MSLOC), is a seasoned executive coach who has coached senior leaders in marketing/analytics, operations, finance, medicine, and law - as well as entrepreneurs, and emering high potential leaders. She holds a PhD in Human Development and Social Policy and leverages this interdisciplinary background to deliver a powerful synthesis of research-backed insights and practical coaching strategies, fostering transformative learning and growth.
