Course Overview

This course is designed for people who want to develop as a reflective coach practitioner and create their own coaching toolkits to use in a variety of developmental contexts (e.g., one-on-one coaching, performance feedback, sensitive managerial conversations, career planning, etc.). You will attend these highly interactive focused on introducing the models and frameworks that Northwestern-educated leadership and organizational coaches employ to maximize coaching effectiveness. As a professional coach, you will leverage what you learn in this course to help your clients develop awareness, think critically about their assumptions, create action plans, and achieve positive, lasting change.

Benefits and Outcomes

Curate your own set of tools to use in coaching engagements while building your confidence in your point of view about coaching as you critique coaching models and methods commonly used in the field. By participating in this session, you will learn how to:

  • Apply evidence-based models to inform your coaching.
  • Engage in ethical coaching practice.
  • Explain key coaching competencies and how they are used in practice.
  • Modify process models for coaching to create an effective coaching session.
  • Facilitate a coaching session by choosing tools/frameworks that will meet client needs.
  • Use assessments wisely, with critical thinking about their utility in a coaching relationship.
  • Give and receive feedback about coaching competencies.

Earn Continuing Education Credit

ELOC is recognized by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP. This program is valid for 21.5 PDCs for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.

Course Certificate Requirements

  • Attend and participate in all synchronous class sessions
  • Complete all coaching circles (practice: coaching, being a client, and offering observations)
  • Complete coaching identity discussion (and other paired discussions)
  • Collaborate with other class participants to build a coaching process model
  • Complete reflection exercises and emotion journal entries

Michelle Albaugh

Michelle Albaugh, Associate Director of Coaching in the Master's and Executive Programs in Learning and Organizational Change (ELOC & MSLOC), is a seasoned executive coach who has coached senior leaders in marketing/analytics, operations, finance, medicine, and law - as well as entrepreneurs, and emering high potential leaders. She holds a PhD in Human Development and Social Policy and leverages this interdisciplinary background to deliver a powerful synthesis of research-backed insights and practical coaching strategies, fostering transformative learning and growth.
