Examining health, environment, and crime economics, with focus on technology, regulation, and how community and environmental conditions shape institutional outcomes.

Biography

Kathryn R. Johnson is a PhD candidate at American University and an instructor at Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy.

Her research sits at the intersections of health economics, environmental economics, and the economics of crime. She has research focused on technological determinates of mental health and cognition, the impact of regulatory decisions on health and mortality, and the ways exogenous shocks affect criminal and criminal justice outcomes. She is particularly interested in the ways in which community health and environmental factors impact the exercise of discretion and the functioning of institutions.
