Higher Education Foundations Certificate

About the Certificate

The Higher Education Leadership in Organizations Certificate (HELOC) prepares current and aspiring leaders with a comprehensive set of skills and insights essential for effective leadership in the dynamic landscape of higher education (e.g. higher education institutions, non-profit organizations, government, and consulting).

Target Audiences

The HELOC is ideal for individuals, regardless of position, who wish to develop their understanding of – and ability to be – dynamic and reflective leaders who serve at the departmental, divisional, organizational, or international level.

Curriculum Overview

The HELOC curriculum empowers students to focus on leadership at the individual, departmental, organizational, and societal levels, depending on their area of interest. At its core, the HELOC trains students to understand, navigate, and influence institutional culture and organizational dynamics through the required course, “Structure, Governance and Leadership in Higher Education.” Students deepen their understanding of higher education leadership ranging from the individual to global levels while exploring how to create diverse, equitable, and inclusive policies, programs, and organizations.

A unique component of the HELOC is the opportunity for self-leadership development in a specialized area of interest (e.g. higher education budget and finance, law and ethics, enrollment management, crisis management, assessment and evaluation), which enables HELOC students to tailor their learning to their unique career goals and aspirations. This holistic approach ensures that graduates are not only well-prepared to tackle the broad complexities of higher education leadership but also ready to drive meaningful change within their institutions and beyond.
