Biography

Maria J. Genao-Homs, Ed.D. (she/her/hers) is the inaugural Director of the Center for Inclusion and Social Change at the University of Colorado Boulder. In this student-centered role, Dr. Genao-Homs serves as an advocate for students from historically marginalized identities by leading the development of the departmental vision, strategy, and accompanying initiatives to encourage a systemic and inclusive campus culture that celebrates and respects the unique qualities of all students. She oversees a cadre of service areas such as Intercultural Engagement, First Generation Programs & Enrichment Services, Education and Social Change, and the Pride office. Prior to her time at CU-Boulder, Dr. Genao-Homs has led institutional efforts aimed to develop systemic changes that address existing inequities in student services at various profiles of institutions. Her approach always includes cross-divisional, collaborative partnerships. Her practitioner-scholar pursuits aim to understand and respond to persistent institutional problems related to social identity categorization (e.g., prejudice, domination, and injustice) by applying interdisciplinary conceptual frameworks.
Hailing from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, Dr. Genao-Homs holds degrees from the University of Central Florida, University of Colorado Boulder, and New York University.
