MSLOC Celebrates Community Members During National Volunteer Week
We are grateful for our volunteers and community members all year through, and April is a month of special volunteer celebration.
In addition to Global Volunteer Month, we’re commemorating 50 years of National Volunteer Week from April 21–27 by honoring the MSLOC volunteers who make our community the special place it is. More than a third of our MSLOC community members engage with us as volunteers every year, an amazing figure!
Here are some of the many ways student, alumni, and faculty volunteers serve our community:
- Planning and coordinating events and programs, from local get-togethers across the globe to program-wide events online and on campus
- Building and sustaining community groups, from identity- and experience-based networks to serving on our Student Leadership Board (SLB)
- Participating in courses, class sessions, and co-curricular workshops as speakers, panelists, clients, and interview subjects
- Developing, prototyping, and providing feedback on learning materials, program and course curriculum, and learner experiences
- Peer-to-peer mentoring and exploration, from participating in MSLOC Meetup to connecting with prospective students
- Directly supporting current students, through our TLC Scholarship Fund, employer recruitment programs, book and resource shares, and more
- Sharing professional career and learning opportunities in their organizations and networks
- Telling their stories and sharing their academic and professional experiences through interviews and testimonials
The impact of the time, talent, and other resources our volunteers provide to the MSLOC community is enormous and reaches every corner of our community and beyond. And we know that many of our community members are regularly engaged as volunteers, mentors, activists, and providers of unpaid labor in many other areas of their lives.
Our goal, for all who give of themselves to MSLOC, is to have them feel that they are not just “giving back” or “paying it forward” but that they are engaging in a relationship that serves them in return.
