I am a PhD candidate in Social Psychology working with professors Onnie Rogers and Mesmin Destin. I study how young people and their identities are affected by their environments. I focus much of my attention on how people are affected by discrimination at every level of society. A Chicago native, I'm a first-gen student from a low-income background and am excited to be a part of SLI again this year.

I am a graduate student in the Engineering Design Innovation program at Northwestern. I work as a design researcher and creative strategist, most recently with the Boston Consulting Group. Inside and out, I am an abolitionist at heart. I am actively involved in political organizing and grassroots activism, primarily concerning police and prison abolition, militarism, decoloniality, surveillance technologies, mental health care, and Disability justice. We are persistently engaged in developing a pluriversal politic that strives for freedom and collective liberation. Outside of school, I run a fashion startup that satiates my creativity and artistic expression.

Hi!! My name is Djamila (she/ella) and I am a post-baccalaureate research fellow at the School of Education and Social Policy (SESP) in the Learning Sciences Department. I received my BS degree in Human Development in Context and Psychology from SESP. My goal as a teaching assistant in SLI is to support FGLI students navigating the transition to University. I am extremely grateful for the SLI community and am so excited to welcome the next cohort, new members of the SLI family! I am passionate about teaching, learning, and writing as practices for critical consciousness and liberatory worldbuilding. I study learning environments in order to figure out how to design and create learning spaces that feel humanizing and freeing for young people. In my free time, I love to take walks, cook, write poetry, and spend time with loved ones.
